29 June 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz paid a farewell call last June 22 on the General Directorate of General Security in Lebanon under the leadership of Major General Abbas Ibrahim at the General Security’s headquarters in Beirut, to brief him on the latest developments in Philippines-Lebanon relations.

Ambassador Ruiz conveyed the Philippine government’s deep appreciation for the excellent cooperation between the Embassy and the General Security in the task of addressing various immigration issues faced by a number of Filipino workers in Lebanon as well as the Philippines’ on-going efforts to repatriate Filipinos from Syria via the Rafik Hariri International Airport (RHIA) in Beirut.

She also noted that the year 2016 is a banner year for bilateral relations because, on October 24, both countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

At the end of the meeting, both sides presented each other with farewell gift items (i.e., handcrafted T’boli warrior keep sake box and a set of Lebanese cutlery and a book on the Lebanon’s famous landscapes, history, art and cultural treasures). END
