The Philippine Embassy successfully concluded its 18-day campaign to end Violence against Women (VAW) at the Diaspora Village in Batroun, Lebanon on 9 December 2023. This culminating activity marked a commitment to eradicating gender-based violence.

The highlight of the 18-day campaign event was a series of engaging discussions and a seminar, bringing together Filipinos and Lebanese spouses. The presence of Atty. Joe Karam, added depth and expertise to conversations surrounding gender-based violence, providing valuable insights into legal perspectives and avenues for support.

The event featured a range of interactive activities designed to actively involve the community in the campaign. Attendees participated in discussions, expressed their thoughts on the Freedom Wall, engaged in a survey assessing their knowledge of the Violence Against Women Act, and a creatively designed photobooth, adorned with “Anti-Violence against Women” signages, emphasizing their commitment to the cause and creating shareable content for social media platforms.

 Among the highlights of the event was the video launch of the “Men Oppose Violence Against Women (VAW)” campaign, featuring male personnel of the Embassy. This initiative aimed to redefine societal perceptions of masculinity and encourage men to actively participate in the advocacy against gender-based violence.

The success of the 18-day campaign was not only measured in terms of participation but also in the impact it had on raising awareness and fostering a community-wide commitment. Assessments of the event indicate increased public support and a heightened understanding of the issues surrounding violence against women. The Embassy is committed to building on this success and utilizing the insights gained to shape future initiatives.
