MANA Mo, celebrated annually in September, aims to highlight the significant role that maritime nations play in marine conservation and the protection of our seas. The event serves as the Embassy’s contribution to raising awareness about the importance of preserving our oceans and promoting sustainable practices within the maritime community.

The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon shares SWIM’s view of the urgent need to address the environmental challenges facing our oceans, including plastic pollution and habitat degradation. By participating in the coastal clean-up drive, the Embassy underscores the Philippines’ dedication to sustainable maritime practices and its determination to lead by example.

In addition, the Embassy took the opportunity to visit a sustainable fishing school outpost which showcases the rich biodiversity of the Lebanese coast and the recycled materials from collected solid waste used in creating artwork pieces by the local community. It highlights innovative ways in which non-biodegradable solid waste can be repurposed instead of ending up in landfills.

The Embassy will join the next coastal clean-up on 24 September 2023 at the Chekka coastal area. Members of the Filipino community are invited to join SWIM’s clean-up drive activities and associated events, which will take place in several villages across the Lebanese coast. Details of the events can be found on the SWIM’s website at www.swiminiative.org.
