BEIRUT - H.E. Raymond R. Balatbat, Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon, paid a call on H.E. Henry Khoury, Justice Minister, on 19 May 2023 to discuss vital issues concerning Filipino nationals in Lebanon and explore possible areas of cooperation.

Ambassador Balatbat expressed the Philippine government’s appreciation of the Lebanese judiciary’s work in ensuring the administration of justice especially in the case of Filipinos in Lebanon where acquittals and releases have led to the successful repatriation of Filipino nationals. In fact, it has repatriated nearly distressed 4,000 in 2019. The Embassy also sought the Minister's kind assistance in ensuring justice for specific cases involving Filipino nationals.

Minister Khoury graciously received the Ambassador and committed to supporting the Embassy in ensuring the speedy administration of justice to cases involving Filipino nationals.

The Embassy emphasized during the call that the promotion of welfare and the protection of the rights of overseas Filipinos are among the pillars of Philippine foreign policy, along with national security and economic diplomacy.

The provision of assistance to nationals such as legal, welfare, and repatriation among others, continues to be given priority by the Embassy due to the existing socioeconomic challenges in the country. END.
