30 May 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon commenced the celebration of the 118th Anniversary of Declaration of Philippine Independence by holding its first-ever film screening for this year with the movie “Heneral Luna” held at the Philippine Embassy Function Room on Thursday, 26 May 2016.
This film screening is also the first major cultural event for 2016, as part of the Embassy’s ardent efforts to promote Philippine arts and culture in Lebanon.
In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz extolled the merits of the film, noting that it provides students of history, particularly the Filipinos, with a fresh look at the nation’s efforts to promote and preserve freedom, democracy and love for human rights and capacity for heroic deeds among Filipinos.
The film made a strong impression on the viewers, with many of them avidly discussing its highlights after the movie.
Among the attendees were friends from the diplomatic corps, Lebanese educational institutions and government and members of the Filipino community.
After the film showing, a Filipino merienda consisting of pansit, turon with langka, chicken empanada and binangkal were enjoyed by everyone.END
