29 June 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon commemorated the 155th Birth Anniversary of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, led by Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz, together with Philippine Embassy in Beirut, POLO and OWWA officers and staff as well as Filipinos sheltered in the Embassy’s Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC).
The commemoration of Dr. Rizal’s birth anniversary started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Philippine Flag, both led by Information Officer Loremie Bautista. Vice Consul Grace Perpetua read a short essay extolling the life and virtues of Dr. Rizal.
Ambassador Ruiz gave a brief introduction to highlight the importance of commemorating the birth anniversary of the Philippines’ foremost national hero. She also stressed that, with the historic arrival of the bust of Dr. Rizal in Lebanon, the Embassy has significantly progressed in its efforts towards establishing a Sentro Rizal in the country for the purpose of promoting Philippine history, heritage, arts and culture.
After the simple ceremony, the Embassy, POLO and OWWA Officers and Staff posed for a photo with Dr. Jose Rizal’s bust, which was donated by the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA). END
