04 July 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz paid a courtesy call on former Prime Minister and leader of the Future Movement H.E. Saad Hariri at his official residence in Downtown, Beirut on June 23 to brief him on the latest developments in Philippines-Lebanon relations.

During her call, Ambassador Ruiz conveyed to Mr. Hariri the Philippine government’s appreciation for his efforts to maintain official and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

She also highlighted the Embassy’s efforts to promote the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers in Lebanon. The Embassy’s initiatives also include cultural activities, which aim to promote mutual understanding and appreciation between Filipinos and the Lebanese.

Finally, Ambassador Ruiz cited the year 2016 as a banner year for bilateral relations because on October 24, the Philippines and Lebanon will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Mr. Hariri welcomed the initiatives of the Embassy and stressed that his party wholeheartedly supports efforts to intensify cooperation in all aspects of the relationship.

Ambassador Ruiz presented Mr. Hariri with a hand-blown glass décor depicting the Philippines’ national transportation icon, the “Jeepney.” END
