24 June 2016 – Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz paid a farewell call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Director of Political and Consular Affairs Ambassador Charbel Wehbe on June 09 to brief him on the Embassy’s continuing efforts to promote closer Philippines-Lebanon relations.     

                                                 

Ambassador Ruiz highlighted in particular the on-going negotiations on the Standard Employment Contract (SEC) for the deployment of Filipino household service workers in Lebanon, as well as the yearly cultural activities, which aim to promote mutual understanding and appreciation between Filipinos and Lebanese.

She also cited the year 2016 as a banner year for bilateral relations because on October 24, both countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Wehbe warmly welcomed the initiatives of the Philippine Embassy and reiterated the Ministry’s strong support for the conclusion of the negotiations on the SEC and for other Embassy activities, including those that aim to promote and protect the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers in Lebanon.
