13 May 2014- The Philippine Embassy in Beirut commenced the overseas voters registration of Filipinos in Lebanon on May 6. The first Filipino citizen to register was Ms. Winne Lim from Biñan, Laguna. A total of 28 Filipinos registered during that first day, all of them for the first time.
Early this year, the Embassy started its overseas voters registration campaign through its official Facebook page. Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz and other Embassy personnel also promoted the overseas voters registration during their attendance in various Filipino community activities.
Last May 4, Ambassador Ruiz, Consul Dennis Briones, Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Officer Dexter Macaraeg, Cultural Officer Gladys Perey and Information Officer Edwin Batallones attended Sunday masses in four Catholic churches as well as a Christian ministry service in Beirut and nearby areas to announce the resumption of overseas voters registration.
The Embassy’s active campaign to encourage Filipinos in Lebanon to register will be a continuous and sustained undertaking to ensure that more Filipinos would be able to vote in the May 2016 presidential election. END
